PUPILS at a Chadderton primary school have won a £5,000 grant to help install a wheelchair lift.
Corpus Christi beat more than 150 schools, community groups and other organisations in an online vote for the Engage Mutual grant.
The lift will pupils and a member of staff with mobility problems to get up stairs to the school hall.
They include year one pupils Ilsa Ul-Haq and Riley Parrish, who sometimes have to go outside in the rain to get to the hall, or sometimes miss events.
Ilsa’s mum Farraq said: “We are really pleased, but we still have more fund-raising to do in order to get the full amount we need for the lift.”
The lift is expected to cost around £16,000.
Corpus Christi head teacher Chris Hanson said: “As a community we are over the moon. The level of support we have received has been amazing.”
