Memorial plea for murdered soldier
Date published: 01 December 2014
THE family of murdered soldier Lee Rigby are backing a campaign to have his name included in a memorial close to the site at which he was killed.
Greenwich Council will place a plaque near the spot in Woolwich were Fusilier Rigby (25) was killed in May 2013, but will not name him specifically. The plaque will be a general tribute to fallen servicemen and women who had connections to the area.
His father, Oldhamer Phil McClure, is backing a campaign to have Lee’s name included on the plaque and an online petition is hoping to collect 100,000 signatures, which could lead to a debate in Parliament.
The petition is available online at www.change.org/p/british-government-build-a-permanent-memorial-for-lee-rigby-in-the-royal-borough-of-greenwich
