Historic buildings to be lit up

ILLUMINATED: Oldham Lyceum
HISTORIC buildings along Oldham’s Metrolink route are to be bathed in light as part of the drive to regenerate the town centre.
The frontages of the Lyceum and the former library and art gallery on Union Street, will be illuminated every night until 1am.
Council leader Jim McMahon said: “Oldham has some wonderful heritage and it’s time we celebrated this. The old library and the Lyceum are both iconic buildings and now they are lit up, they’ll become even more prominent.
“This is part of our plan to make Oldham town centre more attractive to people at night, thanks to the new cinema and the many new bars and restaurants.”
The lighting is part of a wider improvement programme building on the arrival of trams through the town centre earlier this year. Other works have included the installation of new planters and seating along Union Street and improvements and landscaping to the area around the King Street Metrolink stop.
