CHRISTMAS shopping can be stressful . . . but for Oldhamers on Saturday, the Brass Monkeys returned to help spread a bit of festive cheer.
As part of the countdown to Christmas, the Brass Monkeys were the latest to entertain busy shoppers in the borough.
From the more traditional brass bands from Diggle and Littleborough, to the more funky music from Mr Wilson’s Second Liners and the Explosive Baja Brass Band, there was something for both young and old alike.
Stages were set outside the market hall and on the High Street playing everyone’s seasonal favourites. The Explosive Baja Brass Band performed a Bhangra twist to popular Christmas songs, fusing eastern and western cultures.
The weather turned chilly over the weekend but that did not prevent shoppers from stopping in their tracks to enjoy the free entertainment laid out for them.
The cheeky antics and upbeat music played by Mr Wilson’s Second Liners brought a smile to everyone’s faces.
Anthony Smith (47) came from Shaw for a bit of Christmas shopping and light entertainment.
He said: “They’re pretty good, it’s got a nice funky beat.”
Mary and Richard Jones, from Chadderton, took a break from their shopping to enjoy the music.
Mary (67) said: “It’s brilliant. They’re pushing the Christmas spirit.”
Richard (68) said: “It’s something to liven up Oldham. I wish we had more of them.”
Susan Chapman (59), was able to enjoy the performances after finishing her shopping before heading off to work.
She said: “I think it’s brilliant. It’s very Christmassy, really different.
“When you look around you see everybody smiling. They’re making everybody happy.”
