Pavilion cash lift

TIS the season of goodwill to all men and women, and Voluntary Action Oldham has been spreading a bit of festive cheer to support community groups.

The Grotton Residents Association (GRA) has received a £1,000 grant from the Action Oldham Fund (AOF) to help maintain their building.

They voluntarily maintain the community building, known as the Pavilion, on Station Road in Grotton.

The concrete raft on which the building stands has split, and rainwater is seeping into the gap created, undermining the foundations.

The money will go towards this repair, ensuring the use of the centre for local people.

The AOF grant is awarded under the ‘promoting independence and resilience within the community’ criteria.

Clare Taylor, Action Oldham fundraiser, said: “The fund supports local people who come together, working co-operatively, to transform lives for local people.

“The grant will contribute to helping the centre continue to provide activity and developing more community action into the future.”

The GRA is keen for the building to be used for other community activity.

Local people are encouraged to contact group secretary Kathleen Hodges on 0161 624 1905 if they would like to get involved.

The next deadline to receive the AOF grant is 12 noon on February 13.

Up to £1,000 is available for various enterprises that will be beneficial to their communities.
