A DISTRAUGHT family have raised almost £2,000 in memory of a much-loved son, brother and uncle who tragically took his life after battling depression.

Neil Buckley was 29 when he committed suicide in 2013. Family and friends organised a charity event to raise awareness of the help available through mental health charity Mind.

Lisa even contacted Stephen Fry’s agent as the actor and presenter is well-known for his own personal struggles with depression.

Lisa said: “Stephen is an ambassador of Mind but I really didn’t expect to hear anything from him.

“So when he actually sent a signed picture of himself for us to auction off it was absolutely fantastic.”

“We wanted to raise awareness of depression and the support that people can get through Mind’s helpline. Sometimes people don’t feel like they can talk to family or friends and Mind can provide a lifeline for people to use and talk about their depression.”

Vicky Urquhart, community fund-raising co-ordinator for Mind, said: “Neil’s family and friends have gone above and beyond.”
