ANGRY Moorside residents are poised to fight plans to build 30 houses on open countryside next to their homes.
Oxfordshire-based Heyford Developmentswant to build three- and four-bedroom properties on a greenfield site off Haven Lane.
Two years ago Moorside East Residents’ Association mounted a vigorous protest against similar plans less than 200 yards down the road.
After first being made aware of this new proposal in October, nearby Havenside Close tenants led by residents Martina Hanson and Neil Buckley have gathered a 600-strong petition, written numerous objection letters and researched the impact increased traffic would have along with a possible flooding risk.
Martina said: “We’ve got support from all the streets around this area and a lot of them have submitted objection letters. Nobody wants this new development.”
Objectors to this application are primarily concerned about the increase in traffic on an already-congested Haven Lane.
Residents are also concerned about potential flooding if houses are built on the land which often struggles to properly drain after heavy rain.
The site of the former Counthill School is a brownfield area residents feel could be used for other types of development.
