Vandalised bridge’s demolition
Date published: 20 January 2015
ONE of the main roads into Oldham centre will be closed at weekends for a month while a vandalised footbridge is demolished.
The walkway, over Manchester Road, was closed by the council after panels were smashed. Repairs were said to be too costly. The underused bridge was originally scheduled for demolition later this year.
Manchester Street will be closed from its junction with Alfred Street to the roundabout on the north west carriageway, and from Lee Street to the roundabout on the south east carriageway. Motorists will be directed along Featherstall Road, Oldham Way, Middleton Road, Railway Road and Tattersall Street from 7pm on Saturdays to 5am on Mondays from this weekend.
