OLDHAM gritters treated a staggering 9,960 miles of roads in only one week earlier this month - almost the distance between the borough and Adelaide, Australia.
The figure was revealed during a tour of Oldham Council’s gritting headquarters at Moorhey Street.
The public was invited to find out more about how the highways team works to keep roads clear.
The fleet of 10 gritters clocked up the mileage between January 15-21 - using 1,358 tonnes of rock salt in the process.
