SNOW problem: Leighton and Callum Sessman from Royton Hall School, with the gritters they have named.
LOCAL children showed true grit when they were asked to give Oldham’s gritting lorries names.
The council launched a competition asking youngsters to come up with a name for each one of the eight vehicles, used 24 hours a day to keep roads free of snow and ice.
Eight winners were chosen from the hundreds received - and each gritter has now its own name over the front grille.
Among the winners were Freddie Salted, Grittersaurus; Walter the Salter, Gritterbug and Gritney Spears.
Members of the council’s highways team also named two of the gritting fleet: Usain Salt and Brad Grit.
