TWO community champions have been recognised for their years of service.
Raymond Coverley and Colin Platt, of Oldham Rotary Club, have received Rotary’s top award, the Paul Harris Fellowship.
The community-spirited pair have almost 31 years of service to Rotary between them. They were taken by surprise at what they thought was a regular weekly meeting.
In the 80 years of Oldham Rotary Club, only 14 people have received the award.
Mr Coverley, the club’s community service chairman, international chairman and Student of the Year Award chairman, joined in 1997. Mr Platt joined in 2002 and has had a several roles.
Mr Coverley said: “I have to say it was absolutely wonderful. I was sat there ready for our usual meeting and when it was announced that I had been nominated for the fellowship award I was absolutely gobsmacked.”
