Planning team checks out defibrillator sites

FIVE sites for key life-saving defibrillators in Saddleworth are under consideration by Oldham Council’s planning officers.

The North-West Ambulance Service is keen to establish a network of defibrillators to help save lives.

Councillor Alan Roughley, from Denshaw, has been working closely with community groups, councillors and locals to seek out spots for the digitally-locked wall cabinets housing the machines.

Five locations have been submitted to planning officers and six more are being considered for other villages.

Money has already been raised to pay for the installation of the cabinets, including funds from ward allowances from councillors Roughley, Derek Heffernan and Garth Harkness. The defibrillators will be bought and administered by the NWAS.

The five locations are: The Three Crowns, Huddersfield Road, Scouthead; Denshaw Village Hall; Diggle Nursery; Civic Hall, Uppermill and Tame Valley Squash and Tennis Club.
