FAR-RIGHT demonstrators from across the country marched through Oldham town centre on Saturday in protest against child grooming cases.

At least four arrests were made as around 200 members of far-right groups chanted and waved banners.

The group, escorted by 125 police, congregated outside Spindles Shopping Centre where speakers addressed the crowd. A small group of local people formed a counter protest and tensions flared as four protesters were arrested.

A spokesman said he wasn’t aware of any significant trouble on the day.

GMP warned local businesses in advance of the demonstration and closed some town centre streets.

Paul Pitt, leader of the South East Alliance far-right group, was one of the speakers: and claimed people from Oldham had told him there are “no-go zones” for white people in the town.
