Jobless figures rise

Oldham jobless figures rose last month as another 242 claimants became eligible for Jobseeker’s Allowance.
The number claiming the benefit rose from 2,453 in December to 2,695 in January.
The number of unemployed men rose from 1,455 to 1, 632, while the figure for women increased from 998 to 1,063.
Across Greater Manchester, 36,115 were claiming JSA in January, an increase of 628 from the previous month.
