Red mist attack on traffic warden
Date published: 24 February 2015
AN outraged motorist attacked a traffic warden who had given him a parking ticket in Oldham.
Matthew Chamberlain (34) demanded the warden withdrew the notice, Manchester Crown Court was told.
When the warden explained he couldn’t, Chamberlain shoved him, snatched the man’s glasses and stormed back to his car. The warden called police.
Judge John Potter told Chamberlain: “Your behaviour was disgraceful. You lost your temper and acted in a way that was boorish and aggressive.”
Chamberlain, of Hebron Street, Royton, had parked his car - with his daughter inside - on Collinge Street in Shaw when parking restrictions were in force. He was incensed to find the penalty ticket 15 minutes later.
Chamberlain who pleaded guilty to offences of theft of the £150 glasses, and common assault, was told he could have been jailed.
Judge Potter sentenced him to a 12-month community order, ordered he attend an anger management course and to carry out 150 hours of unpaid community work. He also ordered him to pay £300 compensation
