Fewer teens pregnant
Date published: 26 February 2015
OLDHAM’S teen pregnancy rate has continued to fall - though it remains one of the highest in Greater Manchester.
In 2013, 141 Oldham under-18s fell pregnant - a rate of 30.6 per 1,000. This rate was down from the 2012 total of 33.1 per 1,000 girls. The new rate is slightly higher than the average for both Greater Manchester (28.2 in 1,000) and England and Wales (24.5 in 1,000 - the lowest since records began in 1969).
In Oldham, over half (51.1 per cent) of conceptions among girls under 18 ended in abortion, whether legal, natural or by stillbirth
