AN Oldham man has been given a five month suspended prison sentence after pleading guilty to assaulting a child under seven and being drunk in charge of a child under seven.
Oldham magistrates heard how Christopher Simpson (29) of Ronald Street was drunk at a bus stop in Blackshaw Lane while with his child, who was in a push chair.
A witness saw Simpson and the child in the bus stop for up to 90 minutes on the evening of December, 21. After falling asleep there, Simpson later woke and grabbed the chair, which fell to the floor. He aggressively rocked the chair, leaving the chld with bruises, scratches and grazes.
John Wright, defending, explained that Simpson had been at a party that day and had drunk a bottle and a half of wine.
Magistrates accepted it was clear he “didn’t intend to cause harm”.
Simpson must also complete 150 hours of unpaid work and pay £165 costs.
