Ethel Cheetham 100 today
A GOOD sense of humour and toast and marmalade are the magic ingredients to living to a ripe old age according to Ethel Cheetham, who celebrates her 100th birthday today.
The eldest of five children, Ethel celebrated the milestone with her family and friends with a party at Ashbourne House, Lees.
Ethel married Joseph in April 1938. The couple had a daughter, Eunice, in 1940. Joseph died in 1978 and Ethel lived alone until she moved into Ashbourne House.
She said: “I’ll be glad when the celebrations are all over. I’m not that excited because I don’t get like that really.
“I enjoy getting up in the morning for my toast and marmalade. I get mad when there isn’t any!”
