POLICE are looking for witnesses after an elderly woman was knocked down and killed by a lorry in Chadderton on Friday afternoon.
The 85-year-old pedestrian was struck by the lorry on Broadway at the junction with Broadgate, shortly before 12.15pm. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The road was closed for several hours after the incident. No one has been arrested.
PC John Cavanagh of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We are keen to see if any members of the public have any CCTV or dashboard camera footage that might have captured the incident.”
A spokesman for haulage firm Bullwell Trailer Solutions of Tamworth, whose lorry was involved in the incident, said his staff’s thoughts were with the woman’s family.
Emergency services were called to nearby Manchester Road, at the junction with Drury Lane, where two cars had collided shortly after 2.30pm.
Fire crews helped to cut passengers from the cars, a Seat Leon and a Rover 75. A man suffered a leg injury and a woman required treatment for a hip and back injury.
