CHADDERTON residents have taken to social media to slam thieves who broke into a church and stole a Help For Heroes charity box.
St Matthew’s Church, Chadderton, was broken into between noon on Saturday and 8.10am on Sunday.
Burglars got in through a window and took the charity box cash. Police are studying CCTV footage of the incident and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
The incident comes after three Oldham mosques were burgled during December and January with thousands of pounds in charity money and mosque collections being stolen.
Reverend David Penny, vicar of St Matthew’s, said: “As a community we need to work together on this.
“The police have been great, and I and the rest of the church are grateful for everyone’s kind words and support.”
Chadderton residents took to social media after hearing the news: “Speechless. What scum would do this?”, said one among many similar comments
