Degree of cartoon fun for students
Date published: 12 March 2015
PERFORMING is child’s play for 15 Oldham College students who are proving that you are never too old to dress up.
The musical theatre students have been appearing as a range of cartoon characters — from Mickey Mouse and Minions to Spiderman and Sponge Bob Square Pants — after being taken on by Lollymania Mascots.
They are also singing and dancing as as Disney Princesses, Peppa Pig and Iggle Piggle at children’s parties, christenings and weddings.
Students Paige Garth and Lucy Robinson recently took on the roles of Anna and Elsa at a party based on the hit film “Frozen”.
Other students working for the Failsworth-based company include Lucy Robinson, Molly Boardman and Tiago Ferrier who appear as Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Spiderman respectively.
Lollymania’s Rachel Griffin was impressed by the feedback they got and said: “Tiago is the best Spiderman I’ve had.”
Oldham College performing arts tutor Laura Purdey added: “Our approach to vocational education involves providing real-life work experience for our students and ensuring they have the knowledge and skills to secure jobs when they leave college.
“Working with Lollymania is a great opportunity for the students to benefit from paid employment to include on their CVs as well as enjoying themselves.”
The students are also currently appearing in the comedy musical “Little Shop of Horrors” at the college’s Grange Theatre until Saturday.
