Chip-pan fire leaves man homeless

FIREFIGHTERS say a man who was lucky to escape with his life has been left homeless after a chip-pan fire.
A 66 year old was treated in hospital after he left the pan unattended in a flat in Spring Street, Greenacres, at 12.20am yesterday. He was among four people who suffered smoke inhalation following two similar incidents in just over an hour.
FIRE fighters freed a man in his 60s who had become wedged behind a door after falling downstairs.
The man is believed to have broken his hip in the accident, yesterday evening in Moor Street, Shaw.
Firefighters removed the door and a window so he could taken out through the window by paramedics.
