St Chad’s parish centre in Uppermill has just been refurbished - thanks to landfill.
The Veolia Environmental Trust gave the centre an £11,823 grant from its Landfill Communities Fund to help pay for the work.
The centre, in Station Road, has had its leaky roof mended, toilets upgraded for wheelchair access and baby changing, and a redundant chimney repointed and leaded. The building is home to community activities including the Saddleworth Male Voice Choir; Among Friends — a group for older people; an arts and crafts group, and Pilates, yoga, and dancing classes.
Saddleworth St Chad’s churchwarden Barbara Hodgson said: “The roofing work makes a huge difference for us in the long-term. We are so glad the work is complete and would like to thank everyone who made it happen.”
