PRESENTING high order accolades at Buckingham Palace is a job normally reserved for the Queen.
But internationally-renowned Oldham artist Brian Clarke turned the tables when he handed over a commemorative medallion he has designed to celebrate 50 years of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust.
He said: “It felt odd presenting the Queen with a medal at Buckingham Palace — it seems somehow the wrong way round!”
Brian was a guest at a reception that also welcomed famous sporting names from around the world — including Dame Mary Peters and Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson — who have been helped by the trust, which has awarded fellowships to over 5,000 Britons to study overseas.
Clarke used the famous Karsh’s portrait of Churchill, which was etched into enamel to create an eye-catching effect for the medallion.
To mark its half century the trust has just awarded a record 150 travelling fellowships.
