Manchester on track to be cycle city
Date published: 24 March 2015
TRAIN stations in Greater Manchester — including Mills Hill, Chadderton — will get hundreds of new bike parking spaces to boost cycling across the region.
Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) and Northern Rail have received a £636,000 grant from the Department for Transport which is providing £15 million to improve cycle parking facilities at rail stations across the country.
TfGM will now work with Northern Rail and Network Rail to provide the new facilities at nine stations across Greater Manchester.
Nick Fisher, TfGM’s customer operations director, said: “Better cycle parking facilities will allow more people to use bikes to get to key destinations, as well as to cycle as part of a longer journey. It also helps people to build exercise into their daily routine.
“These improvements will help many more people to access rail services and allow them to travel further afield.”
