Students’ designs set for take-off

FUTURE fashion designers from Oldham will see their couture creations on the catwalk at a charity fashion show tomorrow.

Oldham Hulme Grammar School pupil Phoebe Dickson (15), from Grotton, and Oldham College student Dahraan Abdullah (17), from Oldham, are two of three finalists in the “Runway on the Runway” event at Manchester Airport.

The prom-themed fashion show will showcase designs on a custom-built catwalk under the Concorde plane at the Runway Visitor Centre.

Phoebe created a dress inspired by singer Taylor Swift’s ombre-coloured dress for the Grammy awards.

Fashion student Dahraan was inspired by fashion bible Vogue and created a chiffon and lace design.

The three finalists, who each win a sewing machine, will see their design made up modelled at the show, in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust.

The winning dress will become part of top fashion brand Little Mistress’s Prom Collection.

Colette Costello, Oldham College’s curriculum leader in fashion and photography, said: “This is the first year the college has taken part in the competition. Dahraan is an excellent illustrator and designer and a really hard-working student who gives it her all, so we’re delighted at for her.”

Year 10, 11 and 12 students from Hulme Grammar School will become models for the day at the show.
