Hannah Dutton: 100-up
THE Mayor of Oldham helped great-grandmother Hannah Dutton celebrate her 100th birthday by joining family and friends for yesterday’s celebrations at Coppice Care Home, Windsor Road.
Mrs Dutton was born in Springhead during World War One and attended Zion School in Lees. She worked for watch and clock firm Hirst Brothers and met her late husband, George when he was stationed in Springhead during World War Two. The pair married at Zion church and had three children, Stuart, Anne and Janet.
Mrs Dutton, who has six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, spent much of her working life at Lydgate Laundry. She lived in Greenfield until three years ago and was a member of Greenfield.
Her daughter, Anne Mellor, said: “She is a very happy person who loves her family. She has always worked hard and looked after everybody — she would help anyone if she could.”
