A HEROIC neighbour made a citizen’s arrest and disarmed a burglar who was attacking elderly neighbours with a 10in spanner.
Kenny Ingham (41), of Cherry Avenue, Alt, was readying his children for school on Monday morning when he heard his neighbour’s alarm and saw a burglar grappling with partially-blind Gordon Leach (72).
Former pub landlord Kenny stormed into the house and wrestled the attacker to the ground - then pinned him down for 10 minutues until police arrived.
Mr Leach was hit with the spanner and was taken to hospital with a head wound - as was his shocked 74-year-old brother Thomas. A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.
Kenny said afterwards: “I heard the alarm, ran out and saw the door had been smashed. I could see this bloke with a spanner fighting with Gordon. I wrestled him to the floor and held him down. I’m 15 or 16 stone and there’s no way he was going to move.”
Kenny has been hailed a hero by the brothers. Gordon said: “You don’t get many neighbours like that now.
“We heard the window breaking and the alarm going off. He came into my bedroom. He kept saying he was a police officer. We were struggling with him in the living room.”
Kenny’s partner Caroline Morlidge (44) said: “I think he’s a hero. I really do. I’m just so thankful he got there in time.”
