Everybody needs good neighbours

A COMMUNITY champion has been praised for offering a lifeline to a floundering group.
Former councillor Barbara Beeley, chairman of Springhead Community Association, headed a team which has agreed a way forward with the recently-disbanded Lees Community Association.
Members from both associations tried to find an alternative way to continue with events and activities they previously organised.
Now LCA members are to be invited to indicate their interest in this move, which will offer an opportunity for the first time to belong to a community centre. Previously, they used the Community Room at Lees Library as a meeting point for the group.
Barbara said: “It was a positive meeting with discussions around the various events which LCA ran and the opportunities of working together in the future.
“We now have an embryonic agreement and we shall have to see how it grows. We have had very differing paths up to this point although both associations have the aim of involving and improving the local community.”
