THE wow factor: Suzanne Thorp with her Easter egg creation
A SADDLEWORTH baker’s amazing Easter egg has wowed visitors at a top London exhibition.
Suzanne Thorp, who runs the Frostery cake shop in Uppermill, was one of 14 bakers asked by Cake Master magazine to create a 30cm spectacle for the Cake International show at the ExCel Centre.
She was inspired by master Russian jeweller Carl Faberge, world famous for his coveted egg-based creations.
Suzanne, of Grasscroft, created her egg entirely from sugar but added a unique twist: “I looked at Faberge to come up with the design then decided to add Britain’s Queen of Cakes, Mary Berry, on the top.
“It happened to be her 80th birthday two days before as well, so it all tied in nicely.”
The egg took more than 100 hours to create with a profusion of delicate, hand-cut, hand-painted cloverleaves on the outside and a glittering fairy inside as a special surprise.
The egg was in the spotlight on a pedestal at the three-day public exhibition before being returned to Saddleworth. It will be displayed at her Court Street bakery.
