THE unveiling of a Mahdlo masterpiece at an exclusive art auction helped to raise more than £4,000 for the Oldham youth zone.

Members of the Egerton Street centre worked with local artist Kevin Haynes for months to create the painting, which was officially unveiled at the auction.

The young artists were given the opportunity to watch Kevin work, ask questions and create their own paintings ahead of the event.

The painting created by the artistic group was at the centre of the art auction, presided over by Mahdlo’s chairman Terry Flanagan.

“Kevin visited Mahdlo and we began to talk about possible ways for him to get involved. The painting is magnificent and we are truly grateful to Kevin for doing this for us. The limited edition prints are sure to be collectors’ pieces.”

As part of the event, there was also a reading from “Miss Carter’s War”, the new novel from actress and writer Sheila Hancock - part of which mentions Oldham.
