Gary gives tumour the runaround

AN inspirational dad is tackling a charity run just months after having a large brain tumour removed.
Gary Robinson (33), of Watersheddings was found to have an aggressive tumour a year ago after suffering headaches and blurred vision. He underwent risky emergency surgery to have the seven-centimetre growth removed, followed by six weeks of radiotherapy.
After being given the all-clear at Christmas, Gary has signed to run next month’s Manchester 10k to raise money for a charity that researches tumours.
Gary - store manager of the Tesco Express in Bamford, Rochdale - still gets tired and has so far been unable to begin his training. But he says it will be “a breeze” compared to the tumour ordeal.
Gary said of his illness: “It was such a shock. I still can’t believe it to this day really. To be a fit and healthy 33 year old with two kids and be told you have something life-threatening like that, it just shows how indiscriminate these things are.”
His decision to join the 250,000 others in signing up for the Morrisons Great Manchester Run around the city centre on Sunday May 10 was inspired by his survival battle.
He said: “I just want to make the most of everything and when I’m running it will give me the chance to think just how lucky I am.”
