Inspector Alan’s been a great neighbour

ONE of the longest-serving neighbourhood inspectors in Greater Manchester Police will hang up his uniform for the final time today.

Alan Humphries (57) took over the role in 2002. While many neighbourhood inspectors move into different roles within the force, Alan’s passion for community policing has remained.

After 30 years of working with the police, Alan will begin a new chapter as a teaching assistant in a local school at the end of the month.

He said: “Coming into the role just after the riots, it was important for me to work with the community. The highlight for me has been building good relationships with people in the area and helping to build a more cohesive town. I feel we’ve made great strides building good community relations.”

He will be replaced by Mark Davis (44), a local man who started at Oldham division in 2000 before moving to Salford four years later. He returned to Oldham division last year, working on response, and will now take on the role of neighbourhood inspector.

Mark said: “I’ve spent a lot of my career in Oldham and I enjoy working here. I want to carry on the good work Alan has done and hopefully improve things even more.
