A DEDICATED nurse recently returned from helping Ebola victims in Africa has won a prestigious award.
Cath Nixon (31), a health visitor at Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust, has received the Community Practitioner of the Year Award 2015 at the Community Practitioner and Health Visitor Association (CPHVA) Awards in London.
Cath, who has been a health visitor for five years, was nominated by her colleagues for the award for being “selfless, courageous and caring.”
After spending two years working with women and children in Nepal, Cath returned to Oldham in 2014 to work as a health visitor. Cath then travelled to Sierra Leone to work alongside 29 other NHS volunteers at the Save the Children Ebola treatment centre over Christmas.
She said: “I feel honoured to have been named Community Practitioner of the Year.”
Caroline Drysdale, Oldham Community Services Director at Pennine Care, said: “Cath is a fantastic health visitor supporting families in Oldham and we’re lucky to have her as part of our team.”
