Latics fans in train ‘brawl’

TRANSPORT police are appealing for witnesses after Latics fans allegedly started fighting and racially abusing other passengers on the train home from an away game.

But fans on the train deny there was a fight - and say the incident has been blown out of proportion.

The incident supposedly occurred on Virgin’s London to Manchester train on March 21, after fans had seen their team beat Crewe Alexandra 1-0.

Around 50 Latics fans boarded the train at 6.40pm in Crewe and when it set off the group allegedly started brawling among themselves. The train manager held the train at Stockport.

But one fan said: “This has been blown wildly out of proportion. There was no mass brawl. It was one man, and his mates managed to drag him away. There was nothing racist, it was just one drunk man wanting a scrap. It was a bit rowdy, but there was certainly no brawl.”
