Ellie Darlington: into next round
A BID to shake off a crippling anxiety condition has thrust biology student Ellie Darlington under the microscope.
Last week Ellie (21), from Shaw, told the Chronicle how she had forced herself out of the shadows of her social anxiety disorder into the limelight of this year’s Miss Manchester competition in a bid to conquer it.
To her delight she made it into the final 40 for the coveted crown, which attracted over 100 entrants.
Though Ellie didn’t get through by public vote, organisers considered her finalist material.
Ellie, who is studying human biology and infectious diseases at Salford University, says she is nervous but excited by the prospect.
“I’m so pleased and excited,” said Ellie, who became so controlled by the disorder she ended up shutting herself away and missing vital lectures and outings with friends.
“But I’m very nervous - which is to be expected. I’m definitely getting better and really starting to beat the condition,” she said.
Ellie is now preparing for the final at the Palace Hotel in Manchester on May 7. The winner will represent the city at the Miss England finals.
