FIRE-FIGHTERS at the scene of the moorland blaze
More than 30 fire-fighters battled for several hours to extinguish a fire on moorland near Denshaw on Friday afternoon.
Crews from across Oldham and Greater Manchester were called to the moors off Rochdale Road to reports of a grass fire. The cause of the blaze, which spread across a hectare of land, is under investigation by the fire service and police.
Station manager Paul Whittaker said: “Around 30 firefighters worked very hard to put out the blaze and extinguish hotspots.
“We would like to remind any ramblers or walkers using the moorland to be careful when they are out in the countryside, particularly with smoking materials and barbeques, as small fires can easily become out of control.
