ELECTION NEWS: AS 100 candidates prepare to fight for 20 Oldham Council seats on May 7, three wards will definitely feature new faces.
Veteran Crompton councillor John Dillon, Shaw councillor Mark Alcock and Chadderton North councillor Dave Houle will not campaign for re-election. Julia Turner will battle for the Lib-Dem seat in Crompton, Chris Gloster will fight for the Lib-Dems in Shaw and Ali Mohon will defend the Labour seat in Chadderton North.
John Dillon said: “Age is the main factor in my decision to step down. I also wanted to give someone else the opportunity to have a go. I’m 67 in June and I retired nine years ago, which allowed me more time to devote to my council work.”
Mark Alcock said: “Being a councillor is a 24/7 job if you do it right and I got married in December so I decided it was time to call it a day after eight years. It’s been a privilege to serve the people of Shaw.”
