A MAN who fired a gun at two people in a parked car at Watersheddings has been jailed for 20 years.

Andrew Burke (36), of HMP Manchester, was convicted of two counts of assault causing grievous bodily harm following a trial at Manchester Crown Court.

On the morning of June 29 two men in a Seat Leon in Radcliffe Road were approached by Burke, who spoke to them briefly before opening fire.

A 19-year-old man was taken to hospital for injuries to his stomach and a 20-year-old man needed treatment for injuries to his buttocks. Both have since made a full recovery.

Det Chief Inspr Ian Crewe said: “We believe his attack was based on a previous dispute, but whatever his motivation there can be no excuse for such a calculating, deliberate and violent attack. It’s a miracle they weren’t more seriously injured or even killed.

“The judge described Burke as an extremely dangerous man and I can only echo that sentiment. The streets are certainly a lot safer now he is starting day one of a 20-year jail sentence.”
