Raising awareness in Muslim community
Date published: 08 May 2015
A CONFERENCE in Oldham tomorrow aims to raise awareness of child sexual exploitation within Muslim communities.
“Our Children; Our Future” is at the Nusratul Islam mosque on Pitt Street, Glodwick (11am-1pm).
The key speaker will be Nazir Afzal, who resigned as chief prosecutor of the North-West Crown Prosecution Service in March.
One of Mr Afzal’s first decisions on becoming a chief crown prosecutor was to initiate prosecution of the Rochdale grooming gang - overturning an earlier decision by the CPS.
Mufti Helal Mahmood, Oldham Mosques Council development officer, will be discussing the issue from an Islamic perspective.
The event is open to all, and will also be streamed live on www.nusratulislam.org and broadcast on the Mosque radio system.
