Riddle of the missing Whit Friday band cup

BAND TROPHIES: but one has gone missing from Christ Church, Friezland.

AN appeal has gone out to find a treasured Whit Friday Band Contest Cup, donated by a Saddleworth family.

A team of helpers unearthed a dazzling array of cups in Christ Church cellar which were presented to winners at the annual band contest at Friezland some years ago. But one trophy, the solid silver Hadfield Cup, donated in memory of Shirley Margaret Hadfield, wasn’t among them.

Sue Beesley, church warden and Whit Friday committee member, explained: “We plan to produce a new sponsored Whit Friday contest programme but one cup is missing. Perhaps a band took it home and forgot to return it?”
