Sit-ups beat SATs!
Date published: 19 May 2015
Hathershaw College students and their junior friends sat up and took notice for a special anniversary celebration.
Over 500 youngsters took part in an attempt to break the simultaneous sit-ups world record as part of the school’s 60th anniversary events.
Assistant principal Lorna Philip says the school is likely to have broken the Guinness World Record, currently at 414.
“We had 506 year seven and eight students, and youngsters from our trust schools Broadfield and Holy Rosary,” said Lorna. “We’re really hopeful we’ve broken it.”
The event was organised by PE teacher Gareth Barber and supported by 20 independent witnesses including students and staff from Oldham Sixth Form College, Oldham Study Support, Sports Development and Oldham Council’s competition manager Steve Tyrrell.
