Life savings stolen from couple in their nineties
Date published: 22 May 2015
Life savings and jewellery, including a locket containing the hair of a dead child, were stolen from the home of an elderly couple in Moston.
Raiders broke into the property in Lightbowne Road between 11.30am and 3pm on Wednesday while the owners, a 93-year-old man and 91-year-old woman were out.
Among personal items stolen was a gold, heart-shaped locket containing a picture and a lock of hair from their late grand-daughter.
One of the raiders is described as white, and wore a white top, black bottoms. He was seen with two other men.
PC Michelle Gee said: “This is a particularly distressing crime for the victims who have not only had their life savings stolen but a reminder of their granddaughter who died at a young age. They have been left so shaken by the burglary that they feel they can no longer return to their home. Some of the stolen jewellery is irreplaceable as they have been handed down through generations. This is a completely heartless act.”
Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800-555 111.
