A POSTHUMOUS award has been dedicated to the late Saddleworth PC Nicola Hughes in recognition of her dedication to duty.
It was the first year that the ‘Women in Policing’ award was presented at the Police Federation Annual Conference in Bournemouth last week, its purpose being to give national recognition for outstanding endeavours and dedication to duty.
PCs Nicola Hughes (23), of Diggle, and Fiona Bone (32) were lured to their deaths in a horrifying gun and grenade attack in Tameside at the hands of Dale Cregan in September, 2012.
Chairman of The Police Federation of England and Wales, Steve White, said: “Fiona and Nicola’s sacrifice will forever be etched in our memory.
Speaking after the presentation, Nicola’s father Bryn Hughes said: “This should be seen as a celebration of Nicola’s life in the police.”
