East meets West for a festival feast of fun

OLDHAMERS got a taste of both east and west at this year’s Festival Oldham ober the Bank Holiday weekend.
The annual weekend festival in the heart of Oldham celebrated the very best art and entertainment the town has to offer. Bollywood dancers from Asian British Music had the crowds enthralled, while the Bombay Baja band’s drumbeats had both adults and children dancing along.
Creative people enjoyed the art and crafts stalls outside Gallery Oldham, including making their own wish flags, with which to decorate the library.
Street theatre performers Teddy the Fox and Otto the Otter amused the youngsters with their cheeky antics.
The festival — the theme of which was east meets west — was organised by Oldham Arts Development, with funding from Arts Council England, Manchester Airport and the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities.
Dayna Brannick, assistant arts officer at Arts Development, said: “There has been a buzzing atmosphere. Everyone seems to be really happy. It’s really nice to see everybody smiling; it gives you that summer feeling.”
