FORMER Latics boss Dave Penney has been charged with assaulting a police officer and criminal damage following an incident that came as his new club celebrated promotion.
Penney (50), now assistant manager at Southend United, was arrested outside a casino in the Essex seaside resort as players and officials celebrated United’s League Two play-off final win over Wycombe Wanderers at Wembley on Saturday.
Penney, who managed Latics between 2009 and 2010, appeared at Monday’s open-top bus parade wearing dark glasses with a cut on his forehead. He will appear at Castleford Magistrates Court on June 8.
