Waterhead Park bowling green, which will become a “growing hub”

Oldham Planning Committee:

A DISUSED bowling green in Waterhead will be transformed into a large allotment as part of a project to boost the community’s health.

The disused green in Sharples Hall Street will be leased to a community group and form part of the Get Oldham Growing project which supports people to grow, cook and eat local food.

The proposal for a “growing hub”, with raised beds, a poly-tunnel and a materials storage base was unanimously approved by councillors.

The council announced its intention to dispose of the land two mnths ago. Local groups, residents and schools have joined Get Oldham Growing to transform it into a community allotment on which to develop cultivation skills and provide opportunities for exercise and community spirit.
