Sex-slur demo
Date published: 05 June 2015
A man who had a false sexual offence on his record for more than 40 years is continuing to campaign for justice.
Last year Greater Manchester Police told Oldham Social Services that David Wilkins dragged a woman into a ditch in 1965 and tried to remove her underwear. In fact Mr Wilkins was involved in a scuffle in Germany while serving in the Army and punched a female member of the military police. How the information ended up so wrong remains a mystery.
Mr Wilkins’ wife Brenda, from Fitton Hill, is still looking for answers after the false record led to the couple losing access to her grandson for 18 months in 2005.
The incorrect information was was eventually removed from Mr Wilkins’ record 18 months later, but the couple now demand an investigation.
Speaking during a protest outside Oldham Civic Centre yesterday, Mrs Wilkins said: “They have put us through hell.”
