MOSSLEY will lose its last bank when RBS closes its Stamford Road branch.
The bank will close on September 10 with traditional banking services moved to nearby Mossley Post Office 100 yards away in Manchester Road.
RBS blames a fall in customers: “The number of transactions has reduced by 24 per cent since 2011 and only 71 people use the branch weekly). More than a third of these customers already use other branches in the area.”
Mossley councillor Frank Travis said it was a sad announcement for the town and urged the bank to keep customers, particularly those who aren’t able to use online banking, fully up to speed with alternative arrangements.
Customers will be able to pay in or withdraw money, check balances and get business cash from the post office following the closure.
There are eight free ATMs within a mile of the branch and the nearest bank will be in Ashton.
