HUNDREDS of children battled for glory when Oldham’s districts went head to head in the 11th Oldham Borough Games.
The event, at Failsworth School, saw 378 primary school pupils from 35 schools across Oldham compete in a range of sports.
The teams represented six districts of Oldham: Failsworth and Hollinwood, West Oldham, Royton and Shaw, East Oldham, Saddleworth and Lees and Chadderton.
Teams competed in athletics, dance, football, handball, rounders and tag rugby: East Oldham were champions for the second year running.
Neil Buckley, sport development officer at Oldham Council, said the event — which is organised by the council’s Integrated Youth Service and the Sport Development Team — was a big hit.
Oldham Mayor Councillor Ateeque Ur-Rehman was in attendance, as was Failsworth’s Dorothy Shirley-Emerson, who won silver in the high jump at the 1960 Rome Olympics.
